While many volumes have been written on the war from any number of perspectives and the “top 100 battles” have been dissected in excruciating detail, most of these 6,000 events lie largely unexplored and forgotten.
This work focuses on uncovering and telling those stories. It is not our intent or objective to refight the war, but to uncover and document the stories of these families in the war.
This volume is excerpted from our multi-volume work, “All the Battles of the Civil War” which gives a narrative account of the more than 5,000 events which occurred in the war.
The war began and ended this week in the little town of Snickersville, Virginia with events on Monday and Saturday. These were but a preview as battles continued along the Snickersville Turnpike throughout the war with the biggest occurring just before Gettysburg in June, 1863.
Snickers Gap was a strategic pathway between the much fought-over Shenandoah Valley and Union-occupied Northern Virginia. Both armies traveled back and forth using Snickers Gap.
The Confederate Privateer, the Alabama was also in the news this week, destroying two more British Ships. Her commander was Raphael Semmes. Semmes is credited with sinking more than 60 Union ships before being sunk himself off the shores of France by the Kearsarge in 1864.

This Week in the Civil War November 2nd 8th 1862 eBook John C Rigdon
You will likely need to be a Civil War enthusiast to appreciate this book. I like history, but not enough to really get into this series. It is laid out in a diary type fashion, with each page having a different event (like a battle) that occurred on the specific date, and it will note the location (most days have several entries with events that happened in different towns).
Keep in mind that this volume only covers the dates of November 2nd through 8th in 1862. It is a short book, and it contains some color photos (which you will need a Kindle Fire/Ipad or the Kindle PC app to see the photos in color).
The end of the book contains links to websites with further information related to some of the events contained in the book.
